Why should I have an IPL Photofacial?

Treat sun damage, dark spots, fine lines, wrinkles, acne, build collagen, refine texture and pore size with nothing more than light.

One of the things clients tell me they love about IPL is that the downtime is quite minimal, but the results are amazing! Many of my clients receive their treatment during a work break and return after. Rarely a person will stay red or slightly flushed for 24 hours. Most have a slight pinkness to the skin when they leave.

Results from IPL treatments are seen 1 day to a month after starting treatment, depending on the skin condition, skin type and level of energy used. Most will start to notice results around 1 week. The treatments are cumulative. You will continue to see marked improvement for several months after a series of IPL treatments.

Typically 3 to 5 treatments are required to fade hyperpigmentation (brown spots). Each persons skin is different, some may fade quicker while others may need more treatments to achieve the desired result. After treatment, it can take 5-10 days for the brown spots to fade or flake off. It is important not pick at them. Also avoiding the sun is a must!

How an IPL Photofacial works

Intense pulses of light are used to penetrate deep into the skin causing collagen and blood vessels below the epidermis to constrict, effectively improving skin texture, eliminating discolorations, reducing pore size, minimizing wrinkles and fine lines. Those who have rosacea or acne may also benefit from IPL treatments.

How is an IPL Photofacial different from laser?

IPL photofacials are nonablative, meaning no skin is removed during the procedure. With laser resurfacing extremely fine layers of skin are removed. Because laser skin resurfacing is more invasive, it involves a longer recovery period than IPL as well as a greater risk of complications.

Lasers use one focused wavelength of light while IPL uses a broad spectrum of wavelengths. IPL is a more scattered light. During IPL high energy light waves are used to reduce or eliminate many common effects of aging, including facial wrinkles and skin discolorations. Also IPL stimulates your skin to produce collagen.

What to Expect During Treatment

You will be required to wear protective goggles. Ultrasound gel is applied to the treatment area, both for lubrication of the handpiece and to protect the skin. Brief pulses of light will be applied to the skin. I normally allow an hour for the entire procedure.

You will feel a warm sensation to a bit of a rubber band snap on your skin. Most clients tolerate this very well. Your skin will be treated 2x at a level I will determine and then a 3rd pass will be treating specific areas at a higher level. Following the procedure you will have serums and sunscreen applied to your skin.

It is very important to avoid the sun for several weeks and to wear sunblock. Intense pulsed light therapy can give you excellent results, but ongoing you must protect your skin from the sun. The first few weeks after treatment are especially imperative. I suggest hats and sunglasses along with an appropriate PCA Skin Sunscreen.
